Need to know how to approach your manager? Do you feel intimidated or scared? Need to assert your rights?
|
First, let's discuss power. What is Power?
"Power" is the ability to "make things change in your
interest" or "to stop things from changing that are not in
your interest".
What is a "Powerful Local/Unit"?
A "powerful local/unit" has "the ability to organize
people and/or financial resources to cause things to
happen that are in the memberships' interest and/or to
stop things from happening that are not in the
membership' interests"
Tips on Meeting with your Manager for a
Stage One Grievance
DO respect and demand Respect NEVER Threaten.
DO keep your cool. NEVER lose your cool, or you
could lose your credibility and damage your case
further down the line.
DO be truthful. NEVER lie or make assumptions. Get
your facts before your approach.
DO be attentive. NEVER interrupt. Speaking out of
turn could cause a breakdown of a process that is
"tense" by definition.
DO talk to the issue not the personality. NEVER make
the issue a personal attack.
DO keep your integrity. NEVER engage in tactics that
could cause damage to your credibility.
DO take deep breaths before any meeting and
ALWAYS document. NEVER PANIC.

Welcome to OPSEU
Local 5107's site.
Dedicated to informing
and educating our
"new" local within
OPSEU. One of the
prime reasons the
Local Executive
decided to start a
website was to
encourage
"Information Sharing".
This being said, we
are still in the
beginning stages of
development and
hope to have much
more information
available through our
site in the coming
months. Please have
a look around, as any
suggestions and/or
recommendations are
greatly appreciated.
In solidarity,
